Alexandra Prater

LPC

Hey there! My name is Alexandra. After completing my internship at Life Counseling Center as a master's student, I have happily joined the team here as a full-time clinician. I have worked in the mental health field for several years in multiple roles as a: case manager, job mentor for teens with disabilities, school-based and community-based rehabilitative service provider, as well as as a behavioral health technician in a residential setting working with SMI adults.

I am a driven, bubbly, and passionate counselor that aspires to help my clients overcome and better navigate the various challenges life may throw their way. I strive to create a safe, warm and trusting environment for my clients to discover, learn and grow. My ultimate goal is to see my clients blossom into the best version of themselves. My areas of interest are: depression, anxiety, trauma, communication, relationship problems, behavioral issues, improving low self-esteem, life transitions, addictions, and personal growth. I primarily practice from a person-centered approach, using solution-focused therapy techniques and enjoy integrating components of cognitive behavioral therapy. With kiddos, I like to use interactive models, such as play therapy techniques in session.

When I am not in the office working, you can find me at the dog park, spending time with my beloved fur-baby, tending to my plants or making digital art on my computer at a local coffee shop. I am a strong advocate for self-care and enjoy spending time finding new ways to express myself through friendships, family, art and photographs.

Education: Alexandra received her Bachelor of Science in Counseling with an Emphasis in Addiction, Chemical Dependency, and Substance Abuse from Grand Canyon University in 2018, and now holds a Master of Arts in Professional Counseling degree from Ottawa University Arizona as of 2021.

Licenses/certifications, specialty training:  Alexandra is recognized by the State of Idaho as a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC).
